《老娘泪》的剧本源自两个真实案件。一个是四川的交通厅长，犯了受贿罪，他的母亲已经80岁了，她不知道儿子到底犯了什么罪，以为就是欠了钱，就带着孙子去卖花来还儿子欠的钱，让人很感动。还有一个是儿子成了黑社会分子，案发之后跑了，为了逃避法律制裁整容了。母亲花了三年时间走遍全国去找他，终于把儿子找了回来。。当一个雄心勃勃的纪录片导演把镜头对准一个为了赚钱而羞辱自己的美丽女人时，他发现了自己最黑暗的部分。。Set in Los Angeles in the early 2000s, Smoking Tigers is a portrait of a lonely Korean American teen named Hayoung who is taken under the wings of three wealthy students she meets at an elite academic boot camp.
