抗战年代，夜总会小丑董国民（钟镇涛 饰）不堪忍受日寇对上海的肆意轰炸，毅然告别叔父投军，出发之前，董国民在苏州桥下与一名女子一见钟情，他们约定胜利后再见……时间一晃十年，董国民回到上海，自此时常在苏州桥下徘徊，渴望再遇当年人，然而物是人非，此时的桥下只有几个落魄的老兵露宿。董国民楼下的舞小姐阿舒（张艾嘉 饰）收留了一名来沪女子邓仔（叶倩文 饰），并给她生活上的帮助，二人以姐妹相称。董国民与邓仔在天台邂逅，虽然邓仔并非董国民所误会的当年人，但仍对这位青年产生了好感。不久阿舒亦介入了这段关系，但为成全邓仔，阿舒选择了退出。不久董国民终于发现阿舒正是桥下的当年人，而此刻，阿舒却与别人踏上了南下的列车…… 本片为徐克电影工作室的开山之作。。David Wenham's feature film directorial debut is a touching love letter to Sydney.
