香港警队被元率领的悍匪打得无力还击的一幕被电视摄制队拍了下来，全港市民哗然。为了声誉，全港3万多的警员都投入到缉拿重犯的行动中。重案组督察恒跟踪元到了一栋大厦，在他们正想行动时，副指挥官Rebecca却打算把整个过程通过电视现场直播。恒与其他队员都带上了微型摄影机冲入了现场，大厦内早已躲着另一班劫匪，形势凶险，Rebecca却想剪掉此片断。在大厦内挟持人质的元把在闭路电视上录到的警匪搏击片段发给了传媒，警方更加尴尬了。元挟持人质对抗警察，恒救出了人质，逃跑了的元遇到了Rebecca，Rebecca从未见过恒跟元，便误以为元是警察恒，元将计就计，想借此脱身。。二十多年前，一对相恋的知青偷偷生下了一对双胞胎，迫于形势，他们将双胞胎远送他乡。二十多年后，生长在潖江村的弟弟张向泉，在村里招商征地的索赔过程中，发现了自己不一样的身世。他来到了北江市，他一边索要征地款，一边寻找自己的亲生父母。在北江市化工集团副总雅芬的诱惑下，他冒名顶替成了北江化工集团公司总经理，也成了雅芬干不法勾当的替罪羊。哥哥赵引泉在城市长大，年纪轻轻便当上了北江市化工集团公司的总经理。他在建潖江废物填埋场的过程中，多次被人误会成 另一个人。他发现了自己身世的可疑之处，于是也开始了自己的寻亲之路。他被雅芬设计受伤“失忆”后，在巧秀的帮助下来到潖江村，随着他的到来，一段封存了近三十年的爱情故事又慢慢浮出了水面。。In this bitingly satirical film Peter Slovan, a continuous source of trouble for the film functionaries of the socialist Slovakia, tackles an evergreen topic – the corruptive effects of power. Barnabáš Kos, a triangle player at a symphonic orchestra, is suddenly promoted to serve as the head of the said institution, even though both he and his superiors deem him completely unfit for the task. Encouraged in equal parts by this unexpected recognition and the servile praise of his colleagues, Kos’s modesty starts to gradually vanish. The erstwhile bashful and aloof percussionist quickly becomes aware of the advantages of his new office, and begins to realise his increasingly ludicrous artistic ambitions. Ultimately, the submissive marionette turns into a source of public humiliation, and his astonishing career finds an abrupt end. Orchestra serves here as a microcosm that grotesquely reflects the absurd and tragicomic mechanisms of the paranoid apparatus of power.
